A Commitment to Education

Tracy’s journey in education began years earlier when she volunteered as an unpaid teacher from 2013-2015 at a government secondary school. That experience opened her eyes to the unmet needs of children in Kep Province and inspired her to create something lasting and impactful.

From the very beginning, Sala Monkey has grown through the kindness of friends, family, and even strangers who believed in our mission. It is their support—and the support of our wider community—that has turned a rented house into a vibrant school filled with laughter, creativity, and opportunity.

A Community Built on Generosity

By 2014, it was clear the school needed a new, more permanent home. Through a mutual friend, Tracy met Mr. Jo Yahich, who was seeking meaningful ways to give back to Cambodia. After spending time together discussing the project, Joe was inspired by the vision and commitment behind Sala Monkey. Moved to help, he made an extraordinary contribution: purchasing and donating the land for the school to build a brand new campus.

Thanks to Joe’s generosity, we were able to construct dedicated classrooms and a school library—creating a space that would nurture generations of children. Sadly, at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Joe passed away after a short illness. His legacy and kindness remain a foundational part of our story.

Our Work Today

Today, Sala Monkey continues to provide English literacy, Khmer arts, technology education, and cultural programs to children who would otherwise have limited access to quality learning.

As well as running our daily programs, we are proud to currently support seven children with scholarships to study at Sovannaphumi School, provided by our wonderful partner since 2013, One Degree Forward.

Together, we are building a brighter future, one child at a time.
